Giving Constructive Feedback
Along with lack of performance expectations and lack of skills, lack of feedback has been identified as one of the top three barriers to effective work performance.
Unfortunately, most organizations and individuals are feedback-avers.
Many people either do not understand the importance of feedback or do not feel that they possess the necessary skills to provide feedback because of their own discomfort – for example, they fear that they will hurt the other person’s feeling and/or make the situation worse.
The Enneagram can help you to see and understand how your own Enneagram style might interfere when giving feedback.
It also helps you to know how to adjust your approach to the Enneagram style of the person receiving the feedback, both in terms of what to say and how to say it. The same principles apply whether you are saying something positive or negative, thus improving the effectiveness of constructive feedback.
